One tune I was not able to find is featured in one of my very favorite episodes, "Fly My Kite" which this heustess site (linked below) fortunately includes. This is great jazz, the progenitor of the music we all enjoy so much.
#ORIGINAL LITTLE RASCALS SONGS SERIES#
Shield and Hatley's scores would support Our Gang's on-screen action regularly through 1934, after which series entries with background scores became less frequent.įor those who grew up on these tunes like me, I am sure hearing these tunes will bring back some great memories as they did for me. Another 1930 short, Teacher's Pet marked the first use of the Our Gang theme song, "Good Old Days", composed by Leroy Shield and featuring a notable saxophone solo. Hatley and Shield's jazz-influenced scores, first featured in Our Gang with 1930's Pups is Pups, became recognizable trademarks of Our Gang, Laurel and Hardy, and the other Roach series and films. Marvin Hatley had served as the music director of Hal Roach Studios since 1929, and RCA employee Leroy Shield joined the company as a part-time musical director in mid 1930. I've always loved the music from Our Gang, it was integral to the success and emotional impact of these comedies, and I have a feeling I'm not the only one here at PE that really enjoyed this music.
(on channel 11 after school) There were so many great episodes, my favorites were always pre-Alfalfa, when he arrived with his awful 'crooning', the shorts went downhill. Many of us grew up with these Our Gang/Little Rascals shorts, I know they were part of the soundtrack to my youth.
